@sphygmu The report Obama is talking about is thoroughly hedged. It is based on the idea that Obamacare will make the HC sector more efficient. But we all know the bigger Government programs get the less efficient they are because of waste fraud and abuse. The report even state achieving this objective could prove difficult and if it doesn’t work actual cost would be much higher then projected. Hopefully the bill will be found to be unconstitutional.

In particular, we’re delivering unprecedented resources to treat signature wounds of today’s wars—Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This was in a letter from the President Barack Obama. He thinks the treatment of those disorders unprecedented?!? This concerns me.

@myHome109 I am confused. The SS system is an old age subsidy system, there is no relation to a trust, pension, or annuity. The fed workers have their own Pension system, which is not a subsidy system. Even if you believe old age subsidy is the best way for “security,” the “trust” is already spent on the general fund.

  4. Gyrode says:

@sphygmu how does a free market solely become anarchy? It doesn’t! Unless you are an anarchist, most people are NOT anarchists. A free market means that two consenting parties are able to make their own terms on a transaction free of government interference as long as there are no significant third party effects.

  5. Gyrode says:

@sphygmu “I too fear SS won’t be there.” You FEAR SS won’t be there? It’s already gone! It has been spent on the general fund already. SS is a pseudo “Pension” old age subsidy system with double to triple leveraged treasury securities! The issue is that ALL of these pieces of paper are leveraged! There is no capital, or base of money!

The two headed monster ( Republican + Democrat ). All of the political elite feel that anybody that needs Social Security is too poor and stupid to mater. Not to mention the U.S. government is bankrupt. Just tell the people who’s jobs you shipped out of the country to work til there 75 years old? And in case nobody noticed, all companys now expect thier workers to work so hard that your dead by the time your 35 years old. Thats where the productivity gains came from.

  7. Gyrode says:

@workwillfreeyou The FEDs are NOT bankrupt, but will lead us to “old Europe” tax rates and debts. In fact, most upper income countries have LESS debt as a % of GDP than we do. The issue is that we must stop so we don’t have to make the decisions that France will have to make, or Greece did. I concur on the problem, but you must have a sense of proportion.

1.08″Tied to the whims of stock market?” Uh, news flash Obama, Social Security is MORE risky than the stock market. My step-father died at 54. What happened that put into Social Security? It disappeared down a hole…100% loss of principle. Had it been in a privatized diversified portfolio he would have left it to family or charity of his choice. The silliness of Obama and others saying a person might choose the next Enron in the markets. For many, S.S. already IS the next Enron.

F.D.Roosevelt: Lifetime of work, you can retire on SSI… if you live that long, which you shouldn’t. (Maybe that’s what we should do, like FDR: retirement at 85?)

  14. bsabruzzo says:

@sphygmu Irony is that FDR only wanted SSI (note the I, for insurance not entitlement) for those who had no money and lived past the average age (SSI kicked in at 65, average age of death was 58-60). The disabled were a second catagory, but included those who couldn’t earn a living (today you can be quadraplegic and still make 6 figures).

Maybe a means and age test should be applied and we should encourage those who can earn money to work and save rather than spend like the Fed. Gov’t?

There is a reason our economy is so horrible. I don’t think our economy can ever really be healthy again given the debt we’ve racked up. And we will never handle our atrocious debt until we address our corrupt monetary system.
At the heart of this is the Federal Reserve.

Well, the president has a Conneticut social security by the name of Barry Sotereo, his real name. People wake up, look up, our president has a SS from a dead man in 1890

liar!! all you do is lie, you really are the worst pres. ever. You should be impeached. I’d like to know how all this despair and change is working for people. impeach!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. sphygmu says:

It makes you wonder why the GOP spends so much time attacking and trying to dismantle SS rather than promoting policies and programs that would immediately help Americans and our economy. The GOP obstructs and obfuscates while families lose jobs, incomes and their homes. There is only one rational conclusion, the Republican party doesn’t care about the well being of average Americans, only in supporting the ‘big dogs’ who thrive in ‘free market’ anarchy.

  24. aldenbuzz says:

    Thank you President Obama.

  25. floridagrandpa says:

@mayra29501 I hope you are being sarcastic. Social Security began in 1937.
