hay was used successfully in the Santa Barbara oil spill. Bales were lined up. Shredders sprayed hay into the ocean. As it absorbed the oil, bulldozers scraped the oil-soaked hay. Everyone in the community came out to drag oil-soaked hay off the beaches.
Note: the rags do not work on wiping oil off of the marshes.

I agree that this does merit some positive attention in that it will HOPEFULLY make people realize that oil is not the only fuel. It is a shame that people and animals have to lose their lives to the cause.
